Jahde Boisgirard Hummanties 6 5 November 2012 Why didn’t people live in ziggurats? One of the most important things for the Sumerians, Babylonians and Assyrians for their religion was to build a ziggurat. Ziggurats were built in a form similar to a pyramid. Some kings had their name carved on it to create a memory of them. This place was to pray to make sure that the god was taking care of them. Each ziggurat had different sizes and these depended on the god. A Ziggurat that was ta1l showed that the god spirit was powerful. The population offered some presents to the god like dead cats.Only prayers were permitted in the room at its base. Ziggurats were built for so it could reach near the heaven. This was so the gods could be contacted and worshipped.. The ziggurats were built from bottom to top. The highest point to touch the sky was where the people would be near the god. In Babylon people built the highest ziggurat ever made in history. This ziggurat was higher than 300ft tall. It was called the “Gate Of God”.website It was built of millions of mud bricks. This ziggurat is still famous in the world today. Unfortunately this tower was destroyed millions years ago. Today we can’t see so many ziggurats they were all destroyed by religion or war. To answer to the question we can deduce that no one lived in the ziggurats. Rather, The ziggurat was a monument to attract peace in the city, peace in the family, peace in religion, peace in community, ,peace in work ….The ziggurat was protecting everyone. But the population had to donate offend to the god like vegetables, fruit, drinks, jewelery and dead animals.Ziggurats are light brown and they can be any shape SOURCES Ancient Babylonia-The Ziggurat. |
